Peru's Best Beach
Resorts
The coastline
off Trujillo is home to some of Peru's best resorts. Among
the most popular are Huanchaco, Las Delicias and Puerto
Chicamo who offer a good choice of hotels and water sport
facilities.
Huanchaco is ten kilometeres from Trujillo and here can
be seen the famous 'caballitos de totora' (reed boats)
in use. A wide variety of restaurants selling excellent
quality seafood make this a great place to relax. Las
Delicas is a beautiful, safe bathing beach.
Puerto
Chicama or Malabrigo(bad shelter) is a beach set between
two hills which funnel the strong winds to create some
of the longest, largest waves to be found in the world
which makes this a paradise for surfers. The beach is
lined with some of the best hotels of this coast. |

Colonial
Architecture
Trujillo
is one of Peru's prettiest cities with a fine collection
of colonial buildings, painted in a variety of colours including
reds blues, and oranges. An easy place for you to explore
on your own is the area around the city centre. Many places
of interest can be found including the museum of the National
University of Trujillo. |
Jose
Cassinelli Museum |
| A short
taxi ride to the western outskirts of the city will take
you to the fascinating Archaeological museum 'Jose Cassinelli'
which contains a wide collection of Mochica's and Chavin's
ceramics and fascinating mummies. |

Food
|
| Trujillo
is a great place to sample the incredible variety of seafood
including the famous Peruvian dish of ceviche, a mixture
of raw fish marinated in lime juice and garlic. The fish
is cooked by a natural chemical reaction and tastes hot
and spicy. |
| |
The
Dance of The Marinera |
| Trujillo
is also an excellent place to see a wonderful performance
of the traditional dance of the Marinera. Peruvian Secrets
will invite you to a night of dance and song where the local
drinks and atmosphere can be sampled. |

Moche
Civilisation |
On
the outskirts of Trujillo can be seen the Temple of the
moon. Here mud walls preserved under layers of desert reveal
intricate geometric patterns under layers of fierce looking
creatures. The Moche civilization had no alphabet so left
behind a wealth of finely painted pottery in forms of animals
and people. The descendants of the Moche were the Chimu
people who were the largest adobe pre-Columbian city called
'Chan Chan'.
|
Chan
Chan
This
immense city was home to 100,00 inhabitants. Chan Chan is
made up of ten self contained areas that were constructed
in succession by Chimu kings. Surrounding the entire city
for a distance of 20 kilometres are highly decorated walls
standing 12 metres high.
From looking at their artwork and pottery it was found that
fishing was their main livelihood, but the appearance of
jungle animals depicted in some of their artwork is proof
of trade with tribes of the Amazon region. |
