Santa
Tereza |
|

One of the most picturesque districts of Rio with
its charming, narrow and winding streets plus architectural and
cultural treasures visible to the eye and cherished by the heart.
Santa Teresa is located on a hillside near the center of the city
and seems to have stopped in time, maintained as it has been for
decades, with preserved features of Old Rio and a bit of history
in each corner. Lets take a ride on the tram car, the charming
vehicles which date from the 19th century, were moved by animal
traction at first and later by electricity. Survivors of roman
times, they are now protected as historical heritage and still
go along perfectly preserved tracks taking visitors to a re-reading
of the past. The tram car ride starts downtown, crosses the Lapa
Arches and follows the up and down route through the slopes of
Santa Teresa. It leaves from the station in Largo da Carioca,
very near the headquarters of Petrobrás and The Metropolitan
Cathedral.
If
you want to feel like a Carioca, lets stop at the Mineiro Restaurant
and taste a traditional Brazilian cuisine. Feijoada & caipirinha
are a must, but if you prefer northeastern seafood, we will have
plenty of options.
