Destination ~ Puerto Maldonado
|
The
Tambopata Lodge is located
120 km West of Puerto Maldonado on the
Tambopata River. This puts us in the heart
of the Tambopata/Candamo National Reserve.
Upstream from the lodge there are no further
habitations. The lack of people and the
close proximity of the Andes Mountains
contribute to the abundance of fauna and
flora unseen in other areas.
The lodge offers excellent facilities
including: 25 double rooms with a maximum
capacity of 50 people between them, these
can be converted to either single, triple
or quadruple rooms. All rooms have private
bathrooms, mosquito nets and comfortable
beds. Services include: Restaurant, Bar,
Radio Communications and Laundry. Meals
include a healthy mix of meat, chicken
and fish. Vegetarian food is available.

The Tambopata Lodge and Research station
is reached from the town of Puerto Maldonado,
3 to 4 hours up the Tambopata River by motorboat.
During the journey the riverside farms and
prolific bird life and often families of
the world largest rodents, Capybaras (locally
known as Ronsocos) are seen. Upon arrival
at the lodge it is usual to eat and have
a rest before having an introductory walk
in the forest. A range of activities is
possible, either using the lodge as a base
or travelling further a field and camping
at night. |
Collpa Clay Lick
These
provide a unique opportunity for the observation
and study of many different species of Parrot
and Macaws. The same Collpas
are also important to many other types of
animals and it is possible to see monkeys,
deer, peccaries and even tapiers if lucky.
These animals all need to consume the valuable
minerals to be found in the clay walls.
Your evenings can be spent relaxing and
listening to the sounds of the night or
you may join us in a short boat trip to
spot Caimans, these small crocodiles can
be spotted with a powerful lamp and if lucky
our jungle guide will catch one for you
to see close up. |
