Destination ~ Huaraz

Huaraz is the capital of the Ancash region and lays
at an altitude of 3,091 m.
You can expect average temperature of 16 degrees
C but as in most of the Andes the bright sunshine
can make for a very agreeable temperature.

Climate
| From
December to April is the rainy season, this can make
travelling around this area more difflicult. However
this can be an amazing time of year and far less crowded
bringing many rewards to the more adventurous traveller.

Between May and November the climate is beautiful
and is known as the Andean summer. Huaraz has a wealth
to offer the outdoor person from spectacular landscapes
to fresh unclimed rock. |

area is famous for its ski resorts which is something
you would not normally think of in this part of the
world. |
The Famous Mountains of Peru
| Huaraz
sits between the chain of black mountains and thc
permanently snow capped peaks of the Cordliera Blanca.
The area between these is called the Callejon de Huaylas,
this is the home of Peru's two most famous mountains.

Alpamayo
known for its beautiful form which is everyone's
idea of a mountain, perfectly cone shaped Huascaran,
is Peru's highest peak at an impressive 6768 metres
above sea level. This whole area is steeped in history
and believed to be the centre of the oldest known
civilisation in Peru called the Chevin. We will
gladly include a factual tour of this fascinating
culture.

Huascaran National Park

You may wish to visit the Huascaran National Park,
This recognised area of outstanding natural beauty
contains a wide variety of flora and fauna. Here
too can be seen some of the colourful lakes that
are scattered around and of cause you will be guaranteed
snow.
