23rd October 2008 – Arrival Peru
Arriving into Lima your Peruvian Secrets Tour Controller will
meet you at the airport, and transfer you to the Hotel Faraona,
Mira Flores. Your guide will return to give a small evening
tour of the area around the park and to recommend a good restaurant
if your arrival time is before late afternoon. |
Friday
24th October - Lima - Cuzco
After breakfast you will be transferred to the airport for
your morning one-hour flight to the Inca capital, Cuzco.
Here you will be met and transferred to your hotel. After
you have had time to settle in you will have an introductory
walkabout city tour with your Cuzco guide

Sunday
26th October - Machu Picchu
This morning you will be transferred to the small station
especially for the Machu Picchu train. From here you will
take your beautiful train journey through the changing microclimates
as the train ride takes you to the small village of Aguas
Calientes. Here you leave your train and you take the bus
up to the city ruins of Machu Picchu. Peruvian Secrets provides
the services of a professional local guide who will reveal
some of the mysteries that surround this fascinating place.
After your visit we return for mid afternoon to Aguas Calientes
where we will take the return train journey to Cuzco were
you will be transferred to your hotel. You will have the evening
free to explore Cuzco by night, perhaps to take in a fine
restaurant and sample one of the many places of entertainment

Monday
27th October - Orient Express to Juliaca - Transfer to Mallkini
Ranch
This morning you will be transferred to the main train station
and take the incredible journey to the town on Juliaca from
were you will be transferred to the famous Mallkini ranch.
This journey is one of the great train journeys of the world
and takes approximately 9 hours. The comfortable carriage
of the Orient Express offers restaurant service and a carriage
attendant providing beverages and light snacks during your
relaxing and interesting journey. The train also has an excellent
observation car at the rear offering clear and spectacular
views. Upon your arrival into Juliaca you will be met and
transferred by our comfortable vehicle to the beautiful Mallkini
ranch. This is a three hour journey on unmade roads and offers
wild and remote scenery. On arrival at the ranch you will
be able to take dinner and relax in this most comfortable

Tuesday
28th October – Full day Mallkini
Today you will follow
the chosen program of events. The natural surroundings of
Mallkini, makes it a special place to undertake alpaca clinics,
workshops and for those not taking the courses outdoor activities
such as llama trekking, horseback riding, hiking and much
more! Mallkini has the best accommodation in the area, where
visitors can experience the life in the Peruvian highlands
without sacrificing any comfort. As a breeding and genetics
centre, Mallkini is working in programs of carefully selecting
and purchasing the bests alpacas found in the Peruvian Sierra,
breeding techniques, nutrition, reproduction and research
all combine to produce the world’s finest breeding stock.
These programs are aimed to have the best alpaca breeds in
Peru and export worldwide. The level of excellence to be found
in the tutorial programmes offer a wealth of practical as
well of technical information. |
Wednesday
29th October - Full days’ activities at Mallkini Ranch
Today you will continue to follow the program of events at
Mallkini as you learn more from the experts in breeding and
management. This extra day has been added due to the positive
feedback we have received from past clients. |

Thursday
30th October – Last day Mallkini
Today you can enjoy some of the extra activities available
to you including taking a horseback ride, hiking through the
stunning scenery or you may wish to just spend more time with
the alpaca’s. The evening will be a presentation dinner,
were you will receive your completion of course certificate
and have time to relax and enjoy the party. |
Friday
31st October – Transfer to Puno
The morning is free to enjoy the relaxing activities of Mallkini
Ranch. After lunch, you will be transferred by road to Puno
were you will check into your centrally located hotel. Your
evening is free to explore this small but busy town on the
shores of the Great Lake Titicaca. |
Saturday
1st November - Lake Tour – transfer Arequipa
This morning you will transfer to the harbour to join your
boat tour to the floating islands of the Uros Indians. These
incredible islands are constructed from the lake reeds and
anchored to the lake bed. Your guide will explain how these
people live on the lake and the communities that each island
makes up. On your return to Puno you will take lunch before
you transfer in private to the airport for your short flight
to Arequipa, a pleasant, colonial city: better known as the
“white city” as its centre is mainly built of
white, volcanic rock. Upon arrival you will be met by your
expert local guide who will transfer you in private to your
centrally-located hotel. Your evening is then free to relax
and wander around this pleasant city, which offers many fine
restaurants and places of entertainment.

Sunday
2nd November – Michell factory visit
Today you will follow up from you visit to the Mallkini ranch
by having a private visit to the Michell factory. This visit
will let you see the transformation from fibre to finished
products from one of the leading manufactures of fine knitwear.
You will be collected from your hotel and start your visit
to the offices of Mallkini to be introduced to the staff.
From here we will the walk to the new alpaca complex next
to the offices, called “Alpaca World" which is
a visit of 30 to 40 minutes. Moving on, you head for the first
plant, where the Sorting of the greasy alpaca (classification
of raw material) is performed. This is a manual task done
by expert women, who have inherited the abilities from mothers.
They do an amazing job classifying fineness and colours, just
by touch alone. The tour then continues onto the next stages
of the Scouring and Combing Plants. Dependant on time you
can now take lunch or continue your visit to the next location
where you will see the spinning process before transferring
to the last part of the process which is the Dyeing Plant.
In the afternoon after your lunch you can see the final result
of the process by visiting the knitting factory where the
fine alpaca garments are produced. We will finish your day
with the visit to the stunning “Juanita” exhibition
to see the amazingly preserved mummy of the Ice Maiden discovered
high in the Andes. |
Monday
3rd November – Colca Canyon tour
After breakfast you will be collected for the start of your
fully-guided tour of the beautiful Colca Canyon. The fascinating
drive will take you through the National Reserve of Alpacas
and Vicuñas where you will see them living in their
natural environment. Continuing on into the high plateaux
region you will reach the top of the world as you touch nearly
5,000 masl before descending into the scenic Colca Canyon.
Your night’s stay will be in the La Casa de Mamayacchi,
a comfortable and cosy country inn with spectacular views
of the surrounding volcanoes. Your evening can be spent eating
great food and relaxing by the open log fire with a good book.

Tuesday
4th November – Vista Del Condors return to Arequipa
This morning you will take the spectacular journey to the
Vista Del Condors, the best viewing place to see the giant
condors as they ride the rising thermals. You will then return
to have lunch before taking the scenic journey back to Arequipa.
Upon arrival you will check in once again to the hotel La
Casa de mi Abuela, where your evening is free to enjoy your
last exploration of ‘the white city |

Wednesday
5th November - Return to Lima
After breakfast you will be transferred to the airport for
your internal flight to Lima. Upon arrival in Lima you will
check in to the Hotel Faraona once again for your final night’s
stay in Lima. Your afternoon will be free for you to take
a city tour or just relax and explore on your own. Should
you wish your guide will be happy to return to escort you
out for the night to the area of Barranco where you will find
some of Lima’s best nightlife, restaurants and cliff-top
coastal views. |
Thursday
6th November – Depart Lima
This morning you will need to prepare for your departure for
your international return flight. You may like to do some
last minute shopping for gifts or mementoes of your time in
Peru, or alternatively you could to take our optional Lima
city tour; your options can be discussed with your guide at
the time and would be a local payment to guide. At the appropriate
time your Peruvian Secrets Tour Controller will meet you and
transfer you to the airport for your international departure. |
