The Sacred Valley was at the heart of the Incan civilization and has some very interesting sites such as the salt extraction pools (Salinas) near the village of Maras. These have been used since pre-Incan times are still in use today. They are available to any local farmer who wants to use them and many are unused. They provide a truly amazing opportunity for creative photography. A little further down the road is Moray. Experts consider Moray to be an experimental facility for crops. They say, the Incas planted wheat, quinoa, panti, grain and kantu flowers here and they experimented with different altitudes and light intensities. The difference between the lowest and the highest levels can be up to 15ºC (59 ºF). This is equal to the difference between sea level temperature and 1000 m (2,380.8 ft) height level temperature. Both of these sites are down unmade roads and as such are off the main tourist trail. This means that you aren’t going to meet many other visitors, a major advantage of using our private guide. Eventually you will leave the Sacred Valley and be returned to your Hotel. The rest of your day will be free for you to relax and explore.
